Support For Kids: Free Meals Offered In Chesterfield Township
Jillian's Coney Island & Grille off of 23 Mile Rd & Gratiot Ave in Chesterfield Township, Michigan, is offering a free meal to every child every day until SNAP benefits are restored in Michigan.
This move comes a few days before the month of November, when millions of people are expected to lose benefits all over the country, including over 1 million in Michigan alone.
But it's taking local business owners and regular hard-working members of the community to actually do something to help the people who will be suffering, as the owners of the Coney Island put out a Facebook post letting everyone know how kids can eat for free until benefits are restored:
Kids eat free at Jillian’s until SNAP benefits are restored. Any child that visits Jillian’s can get a free grilled cheese and fries until SNAP benefits are restored in Michigan. Please limit to one kids meal per child present, dine in only. No purchase necessary, and no questions asked.

How Many People Will Be Affected By the Loss of SNAP Benefits?
The halt in SNAP Benefits will affect millions of people across the country and in Michigan, as the Detroit Free Press elaborated on recently:
About 1.4 million Michiganders could see their food assistance benefits cut off in November if the federal government shutdown continues. s of May 2025, SNAP had nearly 42 million participants across the country. In Michigan, roughly 13% of households, receive the benefits. Most people in the program are children, older adults and people with disabilities.
