Kalamazoo’s Big Banana Car Creator Faces A Wild Rumor
Everybody knows that Steve Braithwaite and his Big Banana Car are one of the staple features of Kalamazoo. Even though Steve calls Kalamazoo his home, the big banana car has been all over the country and has been featured on national news and television.
Recently, however, one fake publication tricked Steve in the worst way, claiming that Jesse Cole, the eccentric and energetic owner of the Savannah Bananas baseball team, wanted to pay him $2 million to build a large banana car for the Savannah Bananas baseball team.
The fact that it came from legitsportsnews.com was already a glaring conflict, but as Steve mentioned, he went out of his way just to double-check, because it’s $2 million we’re talking about here:
I texted Jesse Cole, the owner and creative force behind the Savannah Bananas baseball team, to ask if this was true. If it was, I was very surprised that no one had told me (I'm the Steve Braithwaite mentioned after all). I was also very excited, because 2 million dollars would come in very handy for Christmas, and I immediately spent half of it on new shoes (I really needed some new shoes). Despite the site being titled LEGITsportnews, it's not true. It is a perfect example of verisimilitude.
In the article, they describe what they would have been using the car for, which does sound pretty awesome:
The plan is for the vehicle to become a rolling promotional centerpiece for the Bananas, a team that has built a national following by combining baseball with entertainment, fan-first energy, and unforgettable showmanship.
How these two entities haven't collaborated yet, I have no clue. I just feel bad for Steve getting misled like that.
