Ohio Restaurant Makes Top 10 List of Most Historic in the U.S.
The U.S. is a big place... like... REALLY big... and thankfully, history has proven that we have some of the best restaurants in the world here. Historically, we've got a lot of places that have withstood the test of time, and have provided service to Americans for more than 200 years.
Such is the case for one restaurant in Ohio, which not only has more than two centuries worth of history, but was just named one of the Top 10 most Historical Restaurants in the country.
These restaurants are the cream of the crop, the top dogs, and where all the celebrities typically want to eat when they're in town, and have been for centuries... not decades. The same booth you're sitting in could have also been occupied by George Clooney, or George Washington in some cases.
Recently, Yelp created their list of the Top 10 Most Historic Restaurants in the country, and it's pretty amazing who made the list.
The oldest is the White Horse Tavern in Newport, Rhode Island, which originally opened in 1673 - before we were even a country - and was finally licensed to serve "all manner of strong drink" in 1702.
Some of the newer restaurants on the list, like Formosa Cafe in West Hollywood, California, have only been open since the 1930s.
But sneaking in JUST past the Revolution, and before the Civil War is The Black Horse Tavern and Golden Lamb in Lebanon, Ohio. Established in 1803, and remaining open ever since, it has hosted everyone from Charles Dickens to Kesha, and even Presidents John Quincy Adams, and George W. Bush.
It's served as a pivotal battleground stop for politicians running for national office, and still serves up early American Classic food items like Sauerkraut balls, Lamb Roast Turkey Dinners, Shepherd's Pies, and a grilled lamb burger that is said to literally melt in your mouth.
Of course, this place has had more than 200 years to get the recipes right, so it should be no surprise that the food is excellent.
